About Ms. Ronan
This is my third year at NYOS and I'm thrilled to be here! I taught 4th grade here last year and 5th grade the year before, after moving from Los Angeles during the very HOT summer.
I grew up in Maine. I have a younger sister named Bethany who is a nurse . My mother still lives in Maine, in the house where I grew up. My father lives in Massachusetts. I went to college at Arizona State University and majored in Anthropology with an emphasis on Mesoamerican archaeology, and minored in psychology and religious studies. I joined Teach for America after college and was placed at a school in South Los Angeles. I taught there for three years while completing my TFA commitment and getting my Master’s in Elementary Education. Most recently, I taught for 3 years at a Constructivist-based charter school in Los Angeles where I looped with my class from 3rd to 4th to 5th grade.
I am very crafty- I knit, crochet, sew, embroidery, cross-stitch and make cards. I lilke to stay active. I've been doing yoga for years and recently started doing Zumba. I love to swim, canoe, and just be near water. I take lots of walk around my neighborhood and often drive to unknown neighborhoods and walk around just to sightsee.
Two years ago I got a puppy named Casey who is pictured above. Last year, a student at NYOS found a puppy abandonded near the school. After running around the front office for a little while, we named him Lamar. I brought him home and have been getting lots of puppy snuggles from him ever sinceYou'll hear A LOT about both Casey and Lamar throughout the year
